Kuki, once a sharp editor at a publishing house but now relegated to a dead-end position, meets Rinko, a married woman who teaches calligraphy at a culture center run by a friend, and continues an adulterous affair with her. Their love only deepens, and Kuki eventually rents an apartment in Tokyo to serve as their love nest. But Rinko's husband hires a private detective and learns of her infidelity, while Kuki's wife pressures him for a divorce. Yet the more they are cornered by those around them, the more fiercely Kuki and Rinko's love burns.
