French writer Marguerite Duras, known for 'The Lover,' adapts her own book 'The Malady of Death / Agatha' into a film. Set in a dilapidated seaside hotel, this experimental work depicts the forbidden love between a brother and sister through lyrical imagery and Duras's own narration. Agatha, reuniting with her brother after eight months at the winter seaside villa Villa Agatha, decides to leave the next morning and part from him forever. The two reminisce about their forbidden love. The brother is played by Yann Andréa, Duras's lover who was 38 years her junior. In Japan, the film had its first theatrical release in 2003, 23 years after its 1981 release. It was re-released in 2012.
