Set in the ruins of post-war Berlin, this film depicts a romantic rivalry involving a playboy American officer. An American female politician heading to Germany is entrusted by a woman with a gift for Captain Pringle. The woman is one of the captain's girlfriends, but upon receiving it, he immediately trades it for a mattress on the black market—so he can flirt with a German woman he has a crush on. Marlene Dietrich plays a Nazi singer, and composer Frederick Hollander, who handled the music, appears as a pianist.
