スティーブン・キングが大学在学中の1960年代に執筆し、1979年にリチャード・バックマン名義で出版された事実上の長編初執筆作「死のロングウォーク」を初映画化。 戦争により国家が分断された近未来のアメリカでは、困窮する社会への光として「ロングウォーク」という競技が国をあげて開催されていた。ひたすら歩き続けるだけで破格の賞金と願いを1つかなえる権利を獲得できるこの競技に、選ばれた50人の若者たちが挑戦する。参加者に課されるのは「時速4.8キロをキープすること」「速度が下回ると警告開始」「3つの警告で即死」「最後の1人になるまで歩き続けること」という4つのルール。若者たちは装甲車に囲まれ、銃を向けられながら、休息も睡眠も許されない極限状態のなかで必死に歩き続けるが……。 ロングウォークに参加する若者役で「リコリス・ピザ」のクーパー・ホフマン、「エイリアン　ロムルス」のデビッド・ジョンソン、競技を執り仕切る少佐役で「スター・ウォーズ」シリーズのマーク・ハミルが出演。「ハンガー・ゲーム」シリーズのフランシス・ローレンス監督がメガホンをとり、「ストレンジ・ダーリン」のJ・T・モルナーが脚本を手がけた。

The first-ever film adaptation of Stephen King's first novel, "The Long Walk," written while he was in college in the 1960s and published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1979. In a near-future America divided by war, a national competition called "The Long Walk" is held as a beacon of hope for a struggling society. Fifty selected teenage boys challenge this contest, where the only requirement is to keep walking. The prize is a staggering sum of money and the fulfillment of one wish. The rules are simple: maintain a pace of 4.8 km/h, receive a warning if you slow down, be executed after three warnings, and keep walking until only one person remains. Surrounded by armored vehicles and under the threat of guns, the boys desperately continue walking in extreme conditions with no rest or sleep allowed... Starring Cooper Hoffman ("Licorice Pizza") and David Johnson ("Alien: Romulus") as the young participants, and Mark Hamill ("Star Wars" series) as the Major who oversees the competition. Directed by Francis Lawrence ("The Hunger Games" series) with a screenplay by J.T. Molner ("Strange Darling").
