The sixth volume of a comprehensive six-part, 10-hour and 46-minute documentary following the life of Kataoka Nizaemon XIII—a master actor who sustained the Kabuki world from the late Showa to early Heisei eras—from the age of 84 to 90. Capturing Nizaemon’s final years from age 88 to 90, the film records performances including "Sanmon" from *The Golden Gate and the Paulownia Crest* (1991, Minamiza, Kyoto), "Arakawa no Sakichi" from *Eight Views of Ryogoku* (1992, Minamiza), "Lord Tsunatoyo at the Mihama Pavilion" from *The Treasury of Loyal Retainers of the Genroku Era* (1992, Misonoza, Nagoya), "The Carriage Pull" from *Sugawara and the Secrets of Calligraphy* (1992, Minamiza), *The Auspicious Sanbaso* (1993, Meijiza reopening, Tokyo), *The Felicitous Soga Confrontation* (1993, Meijiza), "The Inner Garden" from *Kiichi Hogen’s Book of Strategy* (1993, Minamiza), and his final stage appearance in "The State Barge on the Lake" from *The Eight-Array Guardian Castle* (1993, Minamiza), portraying a man dedicated to his craft until the very end. In the "Artistic Discussion" segment, he reflects on "Lord Tsunatoyo at the Mihama Pavilion" and recalls seeing Matsumoto Koshiro in "The Inner Garden" at the Imperial Theatre 70 years earlier. The film also features their 62nd wedding anniversary celebration and interviews with his wife, Kiyoko, his second daughter, Yuko, and his fifth daughter, Shizuka. Directed by Sumiko Haneda, known for works such as *Akiko: Portrait of a Dancer*. Due to its immense length, opportunities for theatrical screenings have been limited, and with no home video release or online streaming available, the film has long been difficult to view. However, in 2026, to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of Kataoka Nizaemon XIII’s passing and the centenary of director Sumiko Haneda’s birth, all six volumes will be screened in Japanese theaters for the first time in 17 years.
