つくしあきひとの同名コミックを原作とするテレビアニメ「メイドインアビス」の劇場版。隅々まで探索され尽くした世界に唯一残された秘境の大穴「アビス」。深く巨大なその縦穴には奇怪な生物たちが数多く生息し、今の人類には作ることのできない貴重な遺物の数々が眠っている。アビスの縁に築かれた街オースで暮らす孤児の少女リコは、偉大な探窟家だった母の白笛が発見されたことをきっかけに、アビスの奥深くへ潜ることを決意。記憶を失ったロボットの少年レグとともに、様々な困難を乗り越えながら冒険を進めていく。深界四層で出会った“成れ果て”のナナチも仲間に加わり、ボンドルドの待つ深界五層へと足を踏み入れた彼らは、そこでプルシュカと名乗る少女と出会う。

A theatrical film based on the TV anime 'Made in Abyss', which itself is adapted from Akihito Tsukushi's manga of the same name. The Abyss is the only remaining unexplored chasm in a world that has been thoroughly explored. This deep, massive vertical hole is home to numerous strange creatures and contains countless precious relics that modern humanity cannot create. Riko, an orphan girl living in the town of Orth, built on the edge of the Abyss, decides to descend into its depths after the discovery of her mother's White Whistle, a legendary cave raider. Along with Reg, a robot boy who has lost his memory, she overcomes various hardships and continues her adventure. At the Fourth Layer, they are joined by Nanachi, a 'Hollow' they encounter. They then venture into the Fifth Layer, where Bondrewd awaits, and there they meet a girl named Prushka.
