「奇跡の海」で審査員グランプリ、「ダンサー・イン・ザ・ダーク」でパルムドールと、2作連続カンヌ映画祭を制したデンマークの異才、ラース・フォン・トリアー監督。彼がブレヒトの「三文オペラ」の挿入歌「海賊ジェニー」にインスパイアされ、ダシール・ハメットの「血の収穫」やカフカの「アメリカ」を参考に“想像上のアメリカ”を描いたと語る実験的作品。監督自身がDVカメラで撮影にも参加している。

An experimental work by the Danish maverick Lars von Trier, who won the Grand Prix for 'Breaking the Waves' and the Palme d'Or for 'Dancer in the Dark' at the Cannes Film Festival. Inspired by the song 'Pirate Jenny' from Brecht's 'The Threepenny Opera,' and referencing Dashiell Hammett's 'Red Harvest' and Kafka's 'Amerika,' he describes this as depicting an 'imaginary America.' The director himself also participated in the filming using a DV camera.
