フィンランドの小さな村でキャベツを作る幸せな夫婦、ユハとマルヤ。ある日、村にシェメイッカと名乗る男が車で通 りかかる。車が故障したという男は畑にいたユハに助けを求め、ユハは快く車の修理を引き受ける。しかしシェメイッカは隙を見てはマルヤを誘惑、マルヤも彼を強く意識するようになる。再びシェメイッカが2人を訪れ、マルヤはシェメイッカと駆け落ちするが、2人が結ばれたあとシェメイッカの態度は豹変する。

Juha and Marja are a happy couple growing cabbages in a small Finnish village. One day, a man calling himself Shemeikka drives through the village. Claiming his car has broken down, the man asks Juha, who is in the field, for help, and Juha gladly agrees to repair the car. However, Shemeikka seizes every opportunity to seduce Marja, and Marja begins to become strongly conscious of him. Shemeikka visits the two again, and Marja runs away with him, but after the two become united, Shemeikka's attitude changes completely.
