「オルランド」「タンゴ・レッスン」などで知られるイギリスの女性監督サリー・ポッターが1983年に手がけた長編デビュー作。1980年代初頭のロンドンを舞台に、スター女優と銀行員の女性の姿を通して「女性と労働」を独創的なアプローチで描いた作品で、近年ではフェミニズム映画の金字塔として評価が高まっている。 ロンドン中心部に位置する地区「シティ」の銀行でデータ入力係として働く黒人のフランス人女性セレステは、数字を移動するだけの労働の空虚さに疑念を抱き、金と権力の関係に強い関心を抱くようになる。一方、女優のルビーは自らの幼少期の記憶と覆い隠されてきた自分自身の歴史をたどり、“偶像”としての自分を客観的に見つめ直す。やがて出会い言葉を交わしたふたりは、男性の経済的覇権争いと「神秘的でいて無力で美しい」という理想的な女性像とのあいだに、何らかの結びつきがあるのではないかと感じはじめる。 「ダーリング」でアカデミー主演女優賞を受賞したジュリー・クリスティが主演を務め、映画に囚われた女性像を体現するルビーを存在感たっぷりに演じた。ポッター監督と音楽家のリンジー・クーパー、パフォーマンス・アートの先駆者ローズ・イングリッシュが共同で脚本を手がけ、クーパーが音楽、イングリッシュが美術と衣装も担当。日本では2026年8月に劇場初公開。

The feature-length debut by British director Sally Potter, known for 'Orlando' and 'The Tango Lesson,' made in 1983. Set in early 1980s London, this film portrays 'women and labor' through a star actress and a female bank clerk with an original approach, and in recent years has gained recognition as a landmark of feminist cinema. Celeste, a Black French woman working as a data entry clerk at a bank in the City of London, begins to question the emptiness of her work moving numbers and develops a strong interest in the relationship between money and power. Meanwhile, Ruby, an actress, traces her childhood memories and her own obscured history, objectively re-examining herself as an 'icon.' When the two meet and converse, they begin to sense a connection between men's economic power struggles and the idealized image of women as 'mysterious, powerless, and beautiful.' Julie Christie, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for 'Darling,' stars, delivering a commanding performance as Ruby, embodying the image of women trapped in film. Potter co-wrote the script with musician Lindsay Cooper and performance art pioneer Rose English, with Cooper composing the music and English handling art direction and costumes. Scheduled for its first theatrical release in Japan in August 2026.
