One of the representative works of Agnès Varda, a leading female director of the French New Wave, this human drama depicts the ironic fate that befalls an ordinary couple in search of happiness. François lives a peaceful and happy life surrounded by his beautiful wife Thérèse and their adorable children. One day, while visiting a nearby town, François meets Émilie, a woman who works at the post office, and falls in love with her. At the same time, François truly loves his wife Thérèse. One day, while on a picnic with his family, François confesses his infidelity to Thérèse... The film won the Silver Bear at the 1965 Berlin International Film Festival.
