「夜は短し歩けよ乙女」「有頂天家族」などで人気の作家・森見登美彦による日本SF大賞を受賞した小説をアニメーション映画化。短編「陽なたのアオシグレ」「台風のノルダ」を手がけたスタジオコロリドの第1回長編作品となり、「陽なたのアオシグレ」の新鋭・石田祐康が監督、「台風のノルダ」の新井陽次郎がキャラクターデザインを担当する。毎日学んだことをノートに記録している勉強家の小学4年生アオヤマ君は、通っている歯医者のお姉さんと仲良し。お姉さんも、ちょっと生意気で大人びたアオヤマ君をかわいがっていた。ある日、彼らの暮らす街に突然ペンギンが現れる。海もないただの住宅地になぜペンギンが現れたのか。アオヤマ君は謎を解くべく研究を始めるが、そんな折、お姉さんが投げ捨てたコーラの缶がペンギンに変身するところを目撃する。テレビドラマ「バイプレイヤーズ」などで知られる北香那が、声優初挑戦でアオヤマ君を演じ、「鉄コン筋クリート」「花とアリス殺人事件」などで声優経験のある蒼井優がお姉さん役を務める。

An animated film adaptation of the novel that won the Japan SF Award, written by popular author Tomihiko Morimi, known for works like "The Night is Short, Walk on Girl" and "The Eccentric Family." This is the first feature-length film from Studio Colorido, the studio behind the shorts "Shiranpuri" and "Typhoon Noruda." It is directed by the emerging talent Hiroyasu Ishida (of "Shiranpuri" fame), with character designs by Yojiro Arai ("Typhoon Noruda"). Aoyama-kun, a studious fourth grader who diligently records everything he learns in a notebook, is close friends with the young woman at his dental clinic. She, in turn, dotes on the slightly cheeky and precocious Aoyama-kun. One day, a penguin suddenly appears in their residential town, which has no ocean nearby. Why would a penguin show up in a mere housing district? Aoyama-kun begins his research to solve the mystery, but then witnesses the young woman's discarded cola can transform into a penguin. Kana Kita, known for the TV drama "Byplayers," voices Aoyama-kun in her voice acting debut, while Yu Aoi, who has voice acting experience in "Tekkonkinkreet" and "The Case of Hana & Alice," plays the role of the young woman.
