This film approaches Kabuki actor Bandō Tamasaburō and, through the existence of the onnagata (female-role specialist), brings into relief a traditional Japanese feminine ideal as a construct of fiction. An unconventional work that blends fiction and reality and depicts its subject in a fantastical manner.
