Early Summer
A moving film that gently, humorously, and meticulously depicts the quiet everyday life of a daughter with little interest in marriage and her family who fret over her marrying soon. One cannot help but be astonished by the modern sensibility of a work made merely six years after the war's end. In the Mamiya household in Kita-Kamakura, the marriage of their daughter Noriko, who is past the suitable age, is the greatest concern. Noriko herself works as a secretary at a major company and seems to be carefree and enjoying her single life. Eventually, marriage proposals come one after another for Noriko... One of the masterpieces representing the great director Yasujiro Ozu.
