昭和後期から平成初期にかけて歌舞伎界を支えた名優・十三代目片岡仁左衛門の84歳から90歳までの姿をとらえた、全6巻・計10時間46分におよぶ大作ドキュメンタリーの第5巻。 1989年に出演した「恋飛脚大和往来」の「封印切」「新口村」（東京・歌舞伎座）の稽古風景と舞台にカメラを向ける。舞台稽古では、視力の弱くなった仁左衛門のため、目印となる赤いランプが花道の端につけられたが、仁左衛門にはもうその目印すらも見えていなかった。舞台では孫右衛門を仁左衛門、忠兵衛を片岡孝夫、梅川を中村雀右衛門が演じた。本巻の冒頭には、1988年に仁左衛門の写真集「風姿」が出版された際のインタビュー映像も収録し、仁左衛門のほか長男・我當、次男・秀太郎、三男・孝夫も出演。 監督は「AKIKO あるダンサーの肖像」「早池峰の賦」などで知られるドキュメンタリー映画作家・羽田澄子。長尺であるため映画館での上映機会が限られており、ソフト化・オンライン配信もされていないことから視聴が困難となっていたが、2026年、十三代目片岡仁左衛門の三十三回忌と羽田澄子監督の生誕100年にあわせ、国内では17年ぶりに全6巻を劇場上映。
The fifth volume of a monumental six-part documentary, totaling 10 hours and 46 minutes, which captures the life of Kataoka Nizaemon XIII—the legendary actor who sustained the Kabuki world from the late Showa to early Heisei eras—from the age of 84 to 90. The camera focuses on the rehearsals and stage performances of the "Fuin-giri" and "Ninokuchi-mura" scenes from *Koi Bikyaku Yamato Orai* (The Love Messenger on the Yamato Highway) held at the Kabukiza Theatre in Tokyo in 1989. During dress rehearsals, a red lamp was placed at the edge of the *hanamichi* runway to serve as a marker for Nizaemon, whose eyesight had weakened, yet he could no longer see even that guide. On stage, Nizaemon performed the role of Magoemon, with Kataoka Takao as Chubei and Nakamura Jakuemon as Umekawa. The beginning of this volume also includes interview footage from the 1988 publication of Nizaemon’s photo book *Fushi*, featuring the master himself alongside his sons Gato, Hidetaro, and Takao.
