ヌーベルバーグを代表する女性監督アニエス・バルダ初期の傑作で、ガンの診断結果を待つ若い女性歌手クレオの5時から7時までをリアルタイムで切り取った作品。ポップ歌手のクレオは自分がガンではないかと疑い、病院で精密検査を受ける。その結果が判明する7時までの間、クレオはパリの街中をさまよいながら幾人かの友人や見知らぬ人々と出会い、心の平静を取り戻していく。本作の音楽も手掛けた名作曲家ミシェル・ルグランがクレオの友人である音楽家ボブを演じたほか、ジャン＝リュック・ゴダール、アンナ・カリーナもカメオ出演している。
Cleo (Corinne Marchand) is a beautiful blonde woman. Lately, however, Cleo is troubled. She feels unwell. The thought that it might be cancer makes her restless. Recently, she underwent a thorough examination at the hospital. The results are due this evening. Cleo is terrified of that moment. Five o'clock. Cleo sits down before a female fortune teller. The fortune teller sees through her illness.
