4人の女性の日常と友情を5時間を越える長尺で丁寧に描き、ロカルノ、ナントなど、数々の国際映画祭で主要賞を受賞した「ハッピーアワー」で注目された濱口竜介監督の商業映画デビュー作。第71回カンヌ国際映画祭のコンペティション部門に出品された。芥川賞作家・柴崎友香の同名恋愛小説を東出昌大、唐田えりかの主演により映画化。大阪に暮らす21歳の朝子は、麦（ばく）と出会い、運命的な恋に落ちるが、ある日、麦は朝子の前から忽然と姿を消す。2年後、大阪から東京に引っ越した朝子は麦とそっくりな顔の亮平と出会う。麦のことを忘れることができない朝子は亮平を避けようとするが、そんな朝子に亮平は好意を抱く。そして、朝子も戸惑いながらも亮平に惹かれていく。東出が麦と亮平の2役、唐田が朝子を演じる。

The commercial film debut of director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, who gained attention for "Happy Hour," a film that meticulously depicted the daily lives and friendships of four women over more than five hours and won major awards at numerous international film festivals including Locarno and Nantes. This film was entered into the Competition section of the 71st Cannes International Film Festival. It is an adaptation of the award-winning love novel of the same name by Akutagawa Prize-winning author Tomoka Shibasaki, starring Masahiro Higashide and Erika Karata. Asako, a 21-year-old living in Osaka, meets Baku and falls into a fateful love, but one day, Baku suddenly disappears from her life. Two years later, having moved from Osaka to Tokyo, Asako meets Ryohei, who has a face identical to Baku's. Unable to forget Baku, Asako tries to avoid Ryohei, but he develops feelings for her. Despite her hesitation, Asako finds herself drawn to Ryohei. Higashide plays the dual roles of Baku and Ryohei, while Karata plays Asako.
