Kinji Fukasaku directs this adaptation of Toshio Kamata's legendary novel "Shin Satomi Hakkenden," a fresh take on Bakin Takizawa's classic "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden." Starring the glamorous duo Hiroko Yakushimaru and Hiroyuki Sanada, it became a massive hit characteristic of Kadokawa Films, which dominated the era and breathed new life into Japanese cinema. Tamazusa, who once married into the Hikita domain and indulged in debauchery and tyranny before being destroyed by the Satomi clan, returns as a demon queen to exact revenge. She orders her son Motofuji Hikita and his retainers to attack the Satomi's Tateyama Castle. The Satomi clan is annihilated, but Princess Shizu and a few retainers escape, pursued by Tamazusa's forces. The eight warriors, each possessing a jewel inscribed with one of the virtues—benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, loyalty, faith, filial piety, and brotherly love—scattered from Princess Fuse's body, live their separate lives. Guided by fate, they gather around Princess Shizu and rise to battle, aiming to crush Tamazusa's ambitions.
