「山の焚火」で知られるスイスの名匠フレディ・M・ムーラー監督が、自身の故郷であるウーリ州の山岳地帯を捉えたドキュメンタリー。 変わりゆく山岳地帯で暮らす山人たちの生き方と精神世界に迫った作品で、民俗学的なテーマや共同体の閉鎖性など、後の「山の焚火」につながる多くの要素が本作の中に認められる。1974年・ロカルノ国際映画祭で国際批評家賞を受賞した。 「山の焚火」「緑の山」とともに「マウンテン・トリロジー（山3部作）」を構成する作品。

A documentary by the renowned Swiss master Fredi M. Murer, known for 'Höhenfeuer' (Alpine Fire), capturing the mountainous region of his native Canton of Uri. Exploring the lives and spiritual world of mountain people in a changing alpine landscape, the film contains many elements that would later connect to 'Höhenfeuer,' such as folkloric themes and the insularity of communities. It won the International Critics' Prize at the 1974 Locarno International Film Festival. This film, along with 'Höhenfeuer' and 'Green Mountain,' forms the 'Mountain Trilogy.'
