アメリカのロックバンド「ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンド」の歌姫にして、ポップアートの旗手アンディ・ウォーホルのミューズとして1960年代に一世を風靡したドイツ出身のニコの晩年を描いた音楽伝記ドラマ。1988年に49歳で他界する直前の2年間に焦点を当て、ステージ上の姿と私生活での葛藤を交錯させながら、華やかな伝説の裏側にある孤独と再生をリアルに映し出す。 1986年。イギリスで孤独に暮らす40代後半のニコは、過去の名声から距離を置き、新しいマネージャーのリチャードやバンドとともにヨーロッパツアーへ出発する。しかしその旅は、彼女自身の不安定な精神や薬物依存、周囲との軋轢といった問題と向き合う過酷なものとなる。母としての後悔と葛藤を抱くニコは、薬物依存と自殺未遂でフランスの更生施設に収容されている息子アリを引き取り、ツアーに同行させるが……。 「未来を生きる君たちへ」のトリーヌ・ディルホムがニコ役で主演を務め、自ら歌唱も務めた。「グレゴリーズ・ガール」のジョン・ゴードン・シンクレアがマネージャーのリチャード役、「4ヶ月、3週と2日」のアナマリア・マリンカがバイオリニストのシルヴィア役で共演。「ミス・マルクス」などで知られるイタリア人女性監督スザンナ・ニッキャレッリがメガホンをとった。2017年・第74回ベネチア国際映画祭のオリゾンティ部門にて最優秀作品賞を受賞。

A musical biopic depicting the later years of Nico, the German-born chanteuse of the American rock band The Velvet Underground and muse of pop art pioneer Andy Warhol, who dominated the 1960s scene. Focusing on the two years before her death in 1988 at age 49, it interweaves her stage presence with personal struggles, realistically portraying the loneliness and rebirth behind the glamorous legend. In 1986, Nico, in her late 40s and living alone in England, distances herself from past fame and embarks on a European tour with her new manager Richard and her band. But the journey is harsh, forcing her to confront her unstable psyche, drug addiction, and conflicts with those around her. Burdened by regret and conflict as a mother, she retrieves her son Ari, who is in a French rehabilitation facility for drug addiction and a suicide attempt, and brings him along on tour... Trine Dyrholm (from "Into Eternity") stars as Nico and performs the songs herself. John Gordon Sinclair ("Gregory's Girl") plays manager Richard, and Anamaria Marinca ("4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days") plays violinist Sylvia. Directed by Italian filmmaker Susanna Nicchiarelli, known for "Miss Marx." It won the Best Film award in the Orizzonti section at the 74th Venice International Film Festival in 2017.
