世界的人気ロックバンド「クイーン」のボーカルで、1991年に45歳の若さでこの世を去ったフレディ・マーキュリーを描いた伝記ドラマ。クイーンの現メンバーであるブライアン・メイとロジャー・テイラーが音楽総指揮を手がけ、劇中の楽曲には主にフレディ自身の歌声を使用。「ボヘミアン・ラプソディ」「ウィ・ウィル・ロック・ユー」といった名曲誕生の瞬間や、20世紀最大のチャリティコンサート「ライブ・エイド」での圧巻のパフォーマンスといった音楽史に残る伝説の数々を再現するとともに、華やかな活躍の裏にあった知られざるストーリーを描き出していく。フレディ役で「ナイト ミュージアム」のラミ・マレックが熱演。監督は「X-MEN」シリーズで知られるブライアン・シンガーがクレジットされているが、製作途中で降板しており、「サンシャイン　歌声が響く街」「イーグル・ジャンプ」のデクスター・フレッチャーが残りの撮影とポストプロダクションで監督を務めて完成させた。そうした製作トラブルも伝わるなかで公開されたものの、世界中で観客に受け入れられ、日本でも2018年公開映画でトップとなる興行収入130億円を突破。社会現象とも呼べる大ヒットとなった。第76回ゴールデングローブ賞では最優秀作品賞（ドラマ部門）、最優秀男優賞（ドラマ部門）を受賞。第91回アカデミー賞でも作品賞を含む5部門にノミネートされ、主演男優賞ほか4部門を受賞した。

A biographical drama depicting Freddie Mercury, the vocalist of the world-famous rock band Queen, who passed away in 1991 at the young age of 45. Queen's current members Brian May and Roger Taylor served as music producers, and the film's soundtrack primarily uses Freddie's own vocals. It recreates the moments of birth of classics like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You," as well as legendary performances in music history such as the stunning performance at "Live Aid," the largest charity concert of the 20th century, while also portraying the untold stories behind his glamorous career. Rami Malek, known for "Night at the Museum," delivers a passionate performance as Freddie. Bryan Singer, known for the "X-Men" series, is credited as director, but he left during production, and Dexter Fletcher, known for "Sunshine on Leith" and "Eddie the Eagle," completed the film, handling the remaining shooting and post-production. Despite the production troubles, it was embraced by audiences worldwide, and in Japan, it became a massive hit, surpassing 13 billion yen at the box office, the highest for a film released in 2018. It won Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actor – Drama at the 76th Golden Globe Awards. It was nominated for five Academy Awards at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won four, including Best Actor.
