Murayama Takashi, who suffered from a serious illness since early childhood, discovers shogi during repeated hospitalizations and, at age 15, becomes a disciple of Mori Nobuo. Ten years later, Takashi moves to Tokyo to fulfill his dream of becoming a Meijin champion. Supported by those around him, he devotes himself fully to shogi, and after reaching the rank of 7-dan, he develops a fierce rivalry with Habu Yoshiharu, who won the Meijin title in the same generation. Takashi immerses himself even deeper in shogi, but cancer gradually consumes his body...
