In 1982, the deadly virus MM-88 is stolen from a research institute in East Germany. However, the plane carrying the spy who stole it crashes in the Alps, and the virus spreads across the Earth, wiping out humanity except for a small group of survivors in Antarctica. One of these survivors, earthquake researcher Yoshizumi, realizes an even greater danger is approaching: a massive earthquake could strike the eastern United States, potentially triggering the launch of nuclear missiles.
