ティルダ・スウィントンが製作を手がけ、自身が強く影響を受けたイギリスの作家ジョン・バージャーの晩年の姿に迫ったドキュメンタリー。 1950年代末のデビューから2017年に他界するまで、美術批評、詩作、戯曲、小説など多彩な分野で表現活動を展開したジョン・バージャー。ブッカー賞を受賞した小説「G.」や世界的ロングセラー「イメージ：視覚とメディア」などで知られ、近年では韓国や日本でも多くの著作が翻訳され評価が高まっている。 そんなバージャーを敬愛し、1980年代から親交を深めてきたスウィントンが、2009年にロンドンの実験的映像プロダクション「デレク・ジャーマン・ラボ」と共同で本作を企画。スウィントンと2人の子どもたち、バージャーを慕うアーティストたちが、フレンチ・アルプスの村カンシーに暮らすバージャーの元を訪ね、戦争の記憶、人間と動物、政治とアート、そして次世代への継承について対話を繰り広げる姿を、カンシーの四季に沿って編まれた4つのチャプターを通して描きだす。2016年・第66回ベルリン国際映画祭出品作品。
A documentary produced by Tilda Swinton, exploring the later years of British writer John Berger, who profoundly influenced her. From his debut in the late 1950s until his death in 2017, John Berger engaged in creative expression across diverse fields including art criticism, poetry, plays, and novels. Known for his Booker Prize-winning novel "G." and the worldwide bestseller "Ways of Seeing," his works have been increasingly translated and acclaimed in South Korea and Japan in recent years. Swinton, who admired Berger and deepened their friendship from the 1980s, conceived this film in 2009 in collaboration with the London-based experimental production company Derek Jarman Lab. The film depicts Swinton, her two children, and artists who cherished Berger, visiting him in the French Alpine village of Quincy, engaging in dialogues about memories of war, humans and animals, politics and art, and passing on legacies to the next generation, structured across four chapters following Quincy's four seasons. Screened at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival in 2016.
