A small village in the mountains of southern Nara Prefecture. Fifteen years have passed since plans to build a railway through this village were proposed, but Kozo Tamura, who was involved in the tunnel construction, loses all motivation upon learning the project has been cancelled. Then one day, Kozo disappears. His remaining family, bewildered, each make their own choices.
