The sequel to the worldwide hit "Top Gun" (1986) that shot Tom Cruise to stardom. Maverick, a legendary pilot, returns to TOPGUN, the U.S. Navy's elite pilot training school, as an instructor. He, who knows the harshness and beauty of the sky better than anyone, teaches the difficulty of protecting and the harshness of fighting, but the trainees are confused and resistant to his unconventional methods. Among them is Rooster, the son of Goose, Maverick's wingman who died during a training flight with him. Rooster resents Maverick and confronts him... Cruise reprises his role as Maverick, with Miles Teller ("Whiplash") and Jennifer Connelly ("A Beautiful Mind") co-starring, and Val Kilmer, who played Maverick's rival Iceman in the previous film, also returns. Directed by Joseph Kosinski ("Oblivion"), with a script by Christopher McQuarrie, known for directing the "Mission: Impossible" series and writing "The Usual Suspects." It was a worldwide blockbuster, grossing over $700 million in North America and over 13.5 billion yen in Japan. Nominated for six Academy Awards at the 95th ceremony including Best Picture, winning Best Sound.
