The film depicts the exploits of Kosuke Kindaichi as he investigates a series of murders on an island in the Seto Inland Sea. An adaptation of Seishi Yokomizo's novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Kunio Shimizu ('Kofukugo Shuppan'), directed by Masahiro Shinoda ('Yasha-ga-ike'), and cinematography by Kazuo Miyagawa, also from that film.
