「パーフェクト・ブルー」の今敏監督が、数十年にわたり1人の男性を思い続けた女優の姿を、時間や空間を超えて描くオリジナル長編アニメーション。小さな映像制作会社の社長・立花は、かつて一世を風靡した昭和の大女優・藤原千代子のドキュメンタリーを作るため、人里離れた千代子の邸宅を訪れる。30年前に突如として銀幕から姿を消し、隠遁生活を送っていた千代子は、立花が持参した1本の鍵を見て、思い出を語りはじめる。千代子の語りは、いつしか現実と映画のエピソードが渾然一体となり、波乱万丈の物語へと発展していく。第5回文化庁メディア芸術祭アニメーション部門では、宮崎駿監督の「千と千尋の神隠し」と同時に大賞を受賞。そのほか、第33回シッチェス・カタロニア国際映画祭最優秀アジア映画賞を受賞するなど、国内外で高い評価を獲得し、ドリームワークスにより世界配給もされた。

Director Satoshi Kon of 'Perfect Blue' crafts an original feature-length animation depicting an actress who has cherished a man for decades, transcending time and space. Tachibana, the president of a small video production company, visits the secluded estate of Chiyoko Fujiwara, a legendary Showa-era actress who once dominated the silver screen, to produce a documentary about her. Chiyoko, who vanished from cinema thirty years ago and has lived in seclusion, begins to recount her memories upon seeing a single key Tachibana brings. Her narrative soon blurs the lines between reality and film episodes, unfolding into a tumultuous tale. At the 5th Agency for Cultural Affairs Media Arts Festival, it won the Grand Prize in the animation division alongside Hayao Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away.' It also received the Best Asian Film award at the 33rd Sitges Film Festival, earning high acclaim domestically and internationally, and was distributed worldwide by DreamWorks.
