Shizuka Mita is a 20-year-old woman who works hard to become an actress as a trainee at the theater troupe "Sea." Moriguchi, a 26-year-old former troupe member now working at a real estate agency, first notices sincere Shizuka in a park. Shizuka prepares for the lead role audition in the troupe's next production, "The Tragedy of W," but her peer Kaori lands the part, and Shizuka is assigned a minor role with only a single line at the beginning of the story. Downcast after failing the audition, Moriguchi confides in her about his own psychological struggles as an actor. He then proposes marriage on the condition that she never becomes a star, and conversely promises to send a large bouquet to her dressing room as a farewell if she succeeds as an actress.
