A Woman Is a Woman
This is Jean-Luc Godard's third feature film, following "Breathless," and a romantic comedy created based on the idea of a "musical comedy in which the characters do not sing." Angela, a cabaret dancer, tells her live-in lover Émile that she wants a child right now. Émile cannot hide his bewilderment at her request. Then a young man named Alfred, who has feelings for Angela, appears... Following Godard's previous film "Le Petit Soldat," Anna Karina plays the heroine, with Jean-Paul Belmondo of "Breathless" as Alfred and Jean-Claude Brialy of "Les Cousins" as Émile. The music is by Michel Legrand, the renowned composer of "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and other films.
