「セッション」で一躍注目を集めたデイミアン・チャゼル監督が、ライアン・ゴズリング＆エマ・ストーン主演で描いたミュージカル映画。売れない女優とジャズピアニストの恋を、往年の名作ミュージカル映画を彷彿させるゴージャスでロマンチックな歌とダンスで描く。オーディションに落ちて意気消沈していた女優志望のミアは、ピアノの音色に誘われて入ったジャズバーで、ピアニストのセバスチャンと最悪な出会いをする。そして後日、ミアは、あるパーティ会場のプールサイドで不機嫌そうに80年代ポップスを演奏するセバスチャンと再会。初めての会話でぶつかりあう2人だったが、互いの才能と夢に惹かれ合ううちに恋に落ちていく。「セッション」でアカデミー助演男優賞を受賞したJ・K・シモンズも出演。第73回ベネチア国際映画祭でエマ・ストーンが最優秀女優賞、第74回ゴールデングローブ賞では作品賞（ミュージカル／コメディ部門）ほか同賞の映画部門で史上最多の7部門を制した。第89回アカデミー賞では史上最多タイとなる14ノミネートを受け、チャゼル監督が史上最年少で監督賞を受賞したほか、エマ・ストーンの主演女優賞など計6部門でオスカー像を獲得した。

A musical film directed by Damien Chazelle, who gained attention with "Whiplash," starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. It depicts the romance between a struggling actress and a jazz pianist through gorgeous and romantic song and dance reminiscent of classic musical films. Mia, an aspiring actress dejected after failing an audition, has a terrible first encounter with Sebastian, a pianist, at a jazz bar she enters drawn by the sound of piano. Later, Mia reunites with Sebastian at a party, where he's sullenly playing 80s pop by the poolside. Though they clash during their first conversation, they fall in love as they're drawn to each other's talents and dreams. J.K. Simmons, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for "Whiplash," also appears. Emma Stone won Best Actress at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, and the film won a record seven awards at the 74th Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. At the 89th Academy Awards, it received 14 nominations, tying the record for most nominations, with Chazelle becoming the youngest Best Director winner in history, and winning six Oscars total including Best Actress for Emma Stone.
