La Paloma
At Madame Lily's brothel, life-or-death gambling takes place amidst decadent plumes of purple smoke. The patrons are intoxicated by the company of young prostitutes and beautiful boys. The brothel's celebrated chanteuse, Viola—also known as "La Paloma" (Ingrid Caven)—appears on stage singing "Shanghai." A male patron gazes intently at her alluring figure. This man, named Isidore (Peter Kern), visits La Paloma's dressing room day after day with a yellow rose, but is fiercely rejected by her, drowned in alcohol.
