アフリカ系アメリカ人の日常と人間性を描き、アメリカ映画に静かな革命をもたらした映画作家チャールズ・バーネットが1977年に発表した長編デビュー作。ロサンゼルスの片隅で暮らすアフリカ系アメリカ人労働者の日常を、写実的なまなざしと詩情豊かな映像美で描く。 ワッツ暴動の爪痕が残る1970年代初頭のロサンゼルス、ワッツ地区。スタンは妻と2人の子どもたちを養うため羊の屠殺場で働きながら、空虚な毎日を送っている。日々の労働と貧困のせいで肉体的にも精神的にも疲れ果てている彼は自分の殻に閉じこもるようになり、妻は孤独を募らせていく。 UCLA映画学部の大学院生だったバーネット監督が卒業制作として手がけ、身近な人々を中心とした素人のキャストを集めて地元ワッツで撮影。音楽著作権の問題で長らく公開できなかったが、2007年にアメリカで劇場公開が実現した。25年に完成した4Kレストア版では、ラストシーンを彩る楽曲が、バーネット監督が当初望んでいたダイナ・ワシントン「Unforgettable」に差し替えられた。1981年・第31回ベルリン国際映画祭フォーラム部門にて国際批評家連盟賞を受賞。日本では、特集上映企画「チャールズ・バーネット　エブリデイ・ブルース」（2026年2月7日～、シアター・イメージフォーラム）にて、4Kレストア版で劇場初公開。

The feature debut of Charles Burnett, a filmmaker who quietly revolutionized American cinema by depicting the daily lives and humanity of African Americans, released in 1977. It portrays the everyday existence of African American workers living on the fringes of Los Angeles with a realistic gaze and poetic visual beauty. Set in the Watts district of Los Angeles in the early 1970s, still bearing the scars of the Watts riots. Stan works at a sheep slaughterhouse to support his wife and two children, living an empty daily life. Exhausted physically and mentally by labor and poverty, he withdraws into himself, while his wife grows increasingly lonely. Directed by Burnett as his graduate thesis film while a student at UCLA Film School, it was shot in Watts using a mostly amateur cast of people he knew. Long unreleased due to music copyright issues, it finally had a theatrical release in the US in 2007. The 4K restoration completed in 2025 replaces the music in the final scene with Dinah Washington's "Unforgettable," as Burnett originally intended. It won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Forum section of the 31st Berlin International Film Festival in 1981. In Japan, it will have its first theatrical release in the 4K restored version as part of the special screening series "Charles Burnett: Everyday Blues" (starting February 7, 2026, at Theater Image Forum).
