Hiroshima
A high school in Hiroshima. In the third-year class taught by Kitagawa, student Michiko Oba collapses with a nosebleed. It is caused by leukemia from the atomic bomb. In this class, a full one-third of the students are hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors). On that day, Yukiko's sister was exposed to the bomb while working on evacuation duties and died in a river. Endo Yukio's father could not save his wife, who was trapped under a building and engulfed in flames. When radish sprouts appeared in Hiroshima, where it was said no grass would grow for 75 years after the bombing, people found hope in those sprouts.
