エリック・ロメール監督による「喜劇と格言劇」シリーズの第4作。パリ郊外のアパートで建築家の恋人レミと暮らすインテリアデザイナーのルイーズ。生真面目なレミと自由奔放なルイーズの間には口喧嘩が絶えない。レミとの生活に息苦しさを感じたルイーズは、パリに自分だけの部屋を借り、妻子持ちの親友オクターブと遊び歩くようになるが……。2人の男と2つの家の間で揺れ動く女性の感情を繊細に描き出す。主演のパスカル・オジェは本作でベネチア国際映画祭主演女優賞を受賞したが、その直後に25歳の若さで急逝した。共演に「クレールの膝」のファブリス・ルキーニ、「ニキータ」のチェッキー・カリョ。

The fourth film in Éric Rohmer's 'Comedies and Proverbs' series. Louise, an interior designer, lives with her architect boyfriend Rémi in a suburban Paris apartment. The serious Rémi and the free-spirited Louise are constantly bickering. Feeling stifled in her life with Rémi, Louise rents her own room in Paris and starts going out with her married best friend Octave... The film delicately portrays a woman's emotions as she wavers between two men and two homes. Lead actress Pascale Ogier won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for this role, but tragically died shortly after at the young age of 25. The cast also includes Fabrice Luchini from 'Claire's Knee' and Tchéky Karyo from 'Nikita.'
