Reiko Asakawa, a TV station director, is investigating an urban legend when she notices that a man and woman rumored to have been involved with a 'cursed videotape' that kills viewers within a week died at the exact same date and time as her niece, Tomoko Oishi, who had died strangely a few days earlier. As her investigation progresses, Reiko discovers that Tomoko and the other three who died simultaneously were acquaintances, that they had stayed at a rental villa in Izu called 'Izu Pacific Land' a week prior, and that the faces of the four in film photos taken at that time are eerily distorted. Seeking to uncover the mystery of their deaths, Reiko visits the villa in question, watches the suspicious tape that was rented there, and immediately receives an eerie silent phone call. From that point on, Reiko's own photos also begin to show her face distorted, just like the four deceased.
