Point Blank
A hard-boiled action film directed by British master John Boorman in 1967, early in his career, starring Hollywood legend Lee Marvin ('The Dirty Dozen,' 'The Professionals'). Based on Richard Stark's crime novel 'The Hunter' (featuring the character Parker), it depicts a man's revenge against his betrayers, blending avant-garde New Wave techniques with the psychedelic culture of the American West Coast. Walker, at the request of his friend Reese, robs a criminal organization's deal at the abandoned Alcatraz prison and steals a large sum of money. However, Reese betrays Walker, shooting him and fleeing with his $93,000 share and Walker's wife, Lyn. As his consciousness fades, memories and fantasies swirl through Walker's mind. Surviving, Walker sets out to recover his share and exact revenge, tracking Reese down. Marvin delivers a powerful performance as the ruthless avenger Walker, with Angie Dickinson ('Rio Bravo') and John Vernon ('Dirty Harry') co-starring.
