In the 15th year of the Showa era, as global tensions rise, German literature scholar Shigeru (Mitsugoro Bando) is arrested for advocating against the war. His grieving mother Kayo (Sayuri Yoshinaga) and two daughters (Mirai Shida, Mirai Sato) are supported by his former students, relatives, and neighbors, and strive to live brightly and strongly.
