日本最後の秘境と言われる徳島・祖谷（いや）を舞台に、都会からやってきた若者と人里離れた大自然の中で暮らす人々の交流を通し、大地に根ざして生きることの尊さを描いた長編作。弱冠29歳の新鋭・蔦哲一朗監督が35ミリフィルムで四季折々の自然をカメラに収めて撮り上げ、2013年・第26回東京国際映画祭「アジアの未来」部門にも出品された。 東京から自然豊かな山里の祖谷にやってきた青年・工藤は、自給自足の生活を始めようとするが、一見のどかな村にも、土建業者と自然保護団体との対立や、田畑を荒らす野生動物と人間との戦いなど、さまざまな争いがあった。そんな時、山奥で質素な生活を送るお爺と女子高生の春菜に出会った工藤は、2人の静かな生活に心が洗われていく。しかし、時が流れるとともにお爺の体が弱っていき……。 若手アクション女優として注目を集める武田梨奈がアクションを封印し、春菜役を務めた。お爺役に田中泯、青年・工藤役に大西信満。「殯の森」「萌の朱雀」の河瀬直美監督も女優として出演している。2026年、蔦監督作「黒い牛」の公開にあわせて、本作も12年ぶりに35ミリフィルム上映。
A feature film set in Iya, Tokushima—known as Japan's last hidden region—that depicts the preciousness of living rooted in the earth through the interactions between a young man who comes from the city and the people living amid the vast, remote natural surroundings. Up-and-coming director Tetsuichiro Tsuta, just 29 years old, shot the seasonal natural beauty on 35mm film, and the work was also entered in the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival's "Asian Future" section in 2013. Kudo, a young man who comes from Tokyo to the nature-rich mountain village of Iya, tries to begin a self-sufficient life, but even this seemingly peaceful village has various conflicts—a confrontation between a construction company and a nature conservation group, and the battle between humans and wild animals that ravage the fields. Then Kudo meets an old man and a high school girl named Haruna living a simple life deep in the mountains, and his heart is cleansed by their quiet existence. However, as time passes, the old man's health begins to fail... Rina Takeda, noted as a young action actress, forgoes action here to play Haruna. The old man is played by Min Tanaka, and the young man Kudo by Shima Onishi. Director Naomi Kawase of "Mourning Forest" and "Suzaku" also appears as an actress. In 2026, coinciding with the release of director Tsuta's film "Black Cow," this work will also be screened on 35mm film for the first time in 12 years.
