2011年1～4月にテレビ放送され、第15回文化庁メディア芸術祭アニメーション部門大賞を受賞するなど高い評価と人気を獲得した「魔法少女まどか☆マギカ」の劇場版シリーズ第3作。全12話のテレビシリーズを再構成した「前編　始まりの物語」「後編　永遠の物語」に続くストーリーで、脚本、作画も新たに描き起こされた完全新作の長編。 鹿目まどかによって魔法少女たちが残酷な運命の連鎖から解き放たれた新たな世界で、まどかへの思いを果たせぬままに取り残された暁美ほむらは、ただひとり、再びまどかにめぐり合えることを信じて戦い続けていた。 まどかやほむらに続く新たな魔法少女・百江なぎさが新キャラクターとして登場。

The third film in the theatrical series of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica," which aired on TV from January to April 2011 and received high acclaim and popularity, including winning the Grand Prize in the Animation Division at the 15th Agency for Cultural Affairs Media Arts Festival. Following the "Beginning Story" and "Eternal Story" films, which recompiled the 12-episode TV series, this is a completely new feature-length work with newly written script and animation. In a new world where Madoka Kaname freed magical girls from the chain of cruel fate, Homura Akemi, left behind unable to fulfill her feelings for Madoka, continues to fight alone, believing she can meet Madoka again. New magical girl Nagisa Momoe appears as a new character alongside Madoka and Homura.
