昭和後期から平成初期にかけて歌舞伎界を支えた名優・十三代目片岡仁左衛門の84歳から90歳までの姿を記録した、全6巻・計10時間46分におよぶ大作ドキュメンタリーの第2巻。仁左衛門の84歳から88歳の4年間を追い、折々の芸談、舞台、生活をとらえた「人と芸の巻」の上巻。 1987年に出演した「伊賀越道中双六」の「沼津」（大阪・中座）、「紙子仕立両面鑑」の「大文字屋」（東京・国立劇場）、「寿曽我対面」（京都・南座）の舞台稽古や本公演の様子を収録。「寿曽我対面」は南座の顔見世35回連続出演となる記念すべき公演で、表彰・取材を受ける仁左衛門の姿にもカメラを向ける。さらに、京都嵯峨の自宅で毎朝神仏に祈る姿や、ご贔屓の集まりである「芸談をきく会」で工藤祐経役について語る様子なども映し出す。 監督は「AKIKO あるダンサーの肖像」などで知られるドキュメンタリー映画作家・羽田澄子。長尺であるため映画館での上映機会が限られ、ソフト化・オンライン配信もされていないことから視聴が困難となっていたが、2026年、十三代目片岡仁左衛門の三十三回忌と羽田澄子監督の生誕100年にあわせ、国内では17年ぶりに全6巻を劇場上映。
The second volume of a monumental six-part documentary totaling 10 hours and 46 minutes, recording the life of the legendary actor Kataoka Nizaemon XIII—who supported the Kabuki world from the late Showa to early Heisei eras—from the age of 84 to 90. This is the first half of the "The Man and His Art" segment, following Nizaemon over a four-year period from age 84 to 88, capturing his occasional discourses on his craft, his stage performances, and his daily life. The film includes footage of rehearsals and performances from 1987, featuring "Numazu" from *Iga-goe Dochu Sugoroku* (Nakaza, Osaka), "Daimonjiya" from *Kamiko Jitate Ryomen Kagami* (National Theatre, Tokyo), and *Kotobuki Soga no Taimen* (Minamiza, Kyoto). The latter was a milestone performance marking his 35th consecutive appearance at the Minamiza’s *Kaomise* festival, and the camera captures Nizaemon as he receives commendations and interviews.
