One night, private detective Mike Hammer picks up a woman named Christina and lets her into his car, but is suddenly attacked by three men and loses consciousness. When he comes to, Mike finds himself in a hospital bed. According to his secretary Velda, Mike and Christina were driven into a river along with the car, and Christina died. Sensing something behind it all, Mike begins to investigate Christina's background.
