A bold, original film adaptation of Junichiro Tanizaki's novel 'The Key', which explores the depths of sexuality through the alternating diaries of a married couple. Starring Mitsuru Fukikoshi, it lays bare a dying man's obsessive attachment and pure love for his younger wife. Kenzo Kenmochi, who runs a construction company, is told by his doctor he has only six months to live. Worried about his much younger wife Ikuko, he schemes to push her into an affair with his subordinate Kimura. As Kimura and Ikuko grow closer, things go according to plan, but Kenzo cannot let go of his feelings for Ikuko. Despite his physical decline, his jealousy intensifies. When he secretly reads Ikuko's diary, he finds her feelings of strong attraction to Kimura's body. Mitsuru Fukikoshi humorously plays the clumsy, jealousy-consumed Kenzo. Kei Kanno plays his wife Ikuko, and Keisuke Koide plays Kimura. The film is directed and written by Shinji Imaoka, known for scripting 'The Zombie Child' and directing 'Reiko and the Dolphin', with Minoru Matsumoto co-writing the screenplay.
