富野由悠季監督ら「機動戦士ガンダム」のメインスタッフが再結集。新たな時代設定と登場人物により描かれた劇場オリジナル作品。宇宙世紀0123年、平和に慣れきり腐敗した地球連邦政府に対し、コスモ貴族主義を掲げるクロスボーン・バンガード（CV）が宣戦を布告。民間人の少年シーブック・アノーはその混乱のなか、連邦軍の最新鋭モビルスーツ、F91に乗り戦うことになる。しかし、アノーの前に幼なじみのセシリーがCVの女王ベラ・ロナとして現れ……。劇場公開版は115分。後に一部シーンやカットの修正や追加・削除などが行われた完全版（120分）が作られている。

A theatrical original work reuniting director Yoshiyuki Tomino and the main staff of "Mobile Suit Gundam," featuring a new era setting and characters. In Universal Century 0123, the Crossbone Vanguard (CV), espousing Cosmo Aristocracy, declares war on the Earth Federation government, which has grown corrupt from being too accustomed to peace. Amid the chaos, civilian boy Seabook Arno ends up fighting in the Federation's state-of-the-art mobile suit, the F91. But before Arno appears his childhood friend Cecily, now as the CV's queen, Berah Ronah... The theatrical release version runs 115 minutes. A complete version (120 minutes) was later produced with some scenes and cuts revised, added, or deleted.
