現役医師の作家・久坂部羊が2003年に発表した同名デビュー小説を、染谷将太が主演を務めて映画化したヒューマンサスペンス。 デイケア施設「異人坂クリニック」に通う高齢者の間では、院長の漆原糾が考案した画期的な治療が密かに広まっていた。コストパフォーマンスに優れた介護を目指すその医療行為は、「廃用身（麻痺などにより回復見込みがない手足のこと）」をめぐるもので、「身体も心も軽くなった」「厳しい性格が柔らかくなった」などと予想外の“好ましい副作用”が現れたという。噂を聞きつけた編集者の矢倉は、老齢期医療に革命を起こす可能性を感じ、漆原に本の出版を打診する。しかし、デイケアに関する内部告発が週刊誌に流出し、さらに患者宅で衝撃的な事件が起こったことで、すべてが暗転していく。 理想を追い求めるあまり合理性と狂気の狭間へと踏み込んでいく医師・漆原を染谷将太が怪演し、編集者・矢倉を北村有起哉、漆原の治療で人生を取り戻した高齢者・岩上を六平直政、漆原の妻・菊子を瀧内公美が演じる。監督・脚本は「家族X」「三つの光」などで国内外から注目を集めてきた𠮷田光希。

Based on the debut novel by physician-author Yo Hisakabe published in 2003, this human suspense film stars Shota Sometani. At the daycare facility 'Ijinzaka Clinic,' an innovative treatment devised by director Kuranosuke Urushibara spreads quietly among the elderly. Aiming for cost-effective care, the treatment involves 'useless limbs' (paralyzed body parts with no hope of recovery), and unexpected 'favorable side effects' have appeared, such as 'feeling lighter in body and mind' and 'a harsh personality softening.' Hearing rumors, editor Yagura senses potential for a revolution in geriatric medicine and proposes publishing a book to Urushibara. However, everything takes a dark turn when an internal whistleblowing about the daycare leaks to a weekly magazine, and a shocking incident occurs at a patient's home. Sometani delivers a haunting performance as Urushibara, a doctor who, in pursuit of his ideals, steps into the gap between rationality and madness. The cast includes Yuki Kitamura as editor Yagura, Naomasa Rokudaira as elderly patient Iwagami who reclaims his life through Urushibara's treatment, and Kumi Takiuchi as Urushibara's wife Kikuko. The film is directed and written by Mitsuki Yoshida, who has gained international attention for works such as 'Family X' and 'Three Lights.'
