真戸香による同名小説をアニメーション映画化した青春ラブストーリー。日本三大花火大会のひとつとして知られ、例年数十万人が訪れる新潟県長岡市の「長岡まつり大花火大会」を舞台に、時を超えて結ばれた約束と高校生たちのひと夏を描く。 高校入学直後のある日、夏目誠は同級生の葉山煌と出会う。煌は幼い頃から曽祖母に「いつか夏目誠と出会う」と語られており、一枚の花火の絵を手にしていた。自分には覚えのないその絵の秘密を探るうちに、2人は過去に交わされた“ある約束”の存在へとたどり着く。やがて、時を超えて結びついた運命の意味が明らかになっていく。 主人公・誠の声を、人気グループ「timelesz」のメンバーで、本作がアニメーション映画初主演となる佐藤勝利が担当。ヒロイン・煌役は、「すずめの戸締まり」の主人公・岩戸鈴芽役でも知られる原菜乃華が務める。監督はテレビアニメ「神之塔 Tower of God」の鈴木慧。企画制作はシンエイ動画、アニメーション制作はSynergySPとアンサー・スタジオが共同で担う。

A youth romance anime film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Madoroka. Set against the backdrop of the 'Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Display' in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, one of Japan's three major fireworks festivals that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, it depicts a promise that transcends time and a summer in the lives of high school students. One day shortly after entering high school, Makoto Natsume meets his classmate Akira Hayama. Since childhood, Akira has been told by her great-grandmother that she would 'one day meet Makoto Natsume,' and she holds a single painting of fireworks. As they investigate the secret of the painting, which Makoto has no memory of, the two discover the existence of 'a certain promise' made in the past. Eventually, the meaning of a fate connected across time becomes clear. The voice of the protagonist, Makoto, is played by Shōri Satō, a member of the popular group 'timelesz,' in his first lead role in an anime film. The heroine, Akira, is voiced by Nanoka Hara, known for playing the protagonist Suzume Iwato in 'Suzume.' The director is Kei Suzuki of the TV anime 'Tower of God.' The project is produced by Shin-Ei Animation, with animation production jointly handled by SynergySP and Answer Studio.
