Matched: True Love
A sequel to the 2024 suspense thriller "Matching," written, directed, and scripted by Eiji Uchida of "Midnight Swan," which depicted the terror lurking behind encounters made through dating apps. Uchida returns to the director's chair, setting the story on a matching tour on a southern island where participants are suddenly caught up in a deadly game. Two years have passed since the "App Marriage Serial Murder Case," in which couples who met through a dating app were killed one after another. Rinka Tadashima and Tomu Nagayama overcame the incident and began dating, but Tomu suddenly vanishes from Rinka's presence. At the same time, a series of murders mimicking the earlier case occurs. A large number of white roses are left at the crime scenes, and an X mark is carved into the faces of the victims. Two months after Tomu's disappearance, Rinka joins a matching tour held on a southern island as a staff member. However, what awaits the participants there is a death game in which they will be killed unless they can prove true love. With no escape, the participants' hidden faces are exposed one after another. Eventually, the missing Tomu reappears before Rinka. Alongside returning cast members including Tao Tsuchiya as Rinka and Daisuke Sakuma as Tomu, the film features Kwak Dong-yeon, making his Japanese film debut as Lee Sung-il, a Korean company president participating in the tour; Hana Toyoshima as Airi Ito, the younger sister of Rinka's late best friend; and Yuki Kura as Anran Nomura, who shows an abnormal obsession with the App Marriage Serial Murder Case.
