つくしあきひとの同名コミックを原作とする人気アニメ「メイドインアビス」の劇場版シリーズの第1部。テレビアニメ第2期「メイドインアビス　烈日の黄金郷」の続編で、アビスの深界七層へと足を踏み入れた主人公リコたちの冒険を描く。 隅々まで探索され尽くした世界に、唯一残された秘境の大穴・アビス。深く巨大なその縦穴には奇怪な生物たちが生息し、いまの人類では作ることのできない貴重な遺物が眠っている。アビスの縁に築かれた街オースに暮らす孤児の少女リコは、偉大な探窟家である母ライザの白笛が発見されたことをきっかけに、アビスの奥深くへ潜ることを決意。記憶を失ったロボットの少年レグや、深界四層で危機を救ってくれたナナチ、深界六層の「成れ果ての村」で出会ったファプタとともに、深界七層へと進んでいく。 リコ役の富田美憂、レグ役の伊瀬茉莉也、ナナチ役の井澤詩織、ファプタ役の久野美咲らこれまでの声優陣に加え、本作で新たに登場する探窟家テパステ役で諸星すみれ、黒笛の探窟家クラヴァリ役で星野貴紀が参加。これまでのシリーズに引き続き小島正幸が監督、倉田英之が脚本を担当。

The first installment in the theatrical film series of the popular anime "Made in Abyss," based on the manga of the same name by Akihito Tsukushi. A sequel to the second TV anime season, "Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun," it depicts the adventures of protagonist Riko and her companions as they step into the seventh layer of the Abyss. In a world explored down to every last corner, the Abyss remains the only unexplored chasm—a vast, deep vertical pit inhabited by bizarre creatures and home to precious relics that present-day humanity cannot create. Riko, an orphan girl living in the town of Orth built at the edge of the Abyss, resolves to descend deep into the Abyss after the White Whistle of her mother Lyza, a great Cave Raider, is discovered. Together with Reg, a robot boy who has lost his memories; Nanachi, who saved them from danger in the fourth layer; and Faputa, whom they met in the "Village of the Hollows" in the sixth layer, she presses on toward the seventh layer. Joining the returning voice cast—Miyu Tomita as Riko, Mariya Ise as Reg, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi, and Misaki Kuno as Faputa—are Sumire Morohoshi as Tepaste, a Cave Raider newly appearing in this film, and Takanori Hoshino as Clavarli, a Black Whistle Cave Raider. Masayuki Kojima returns as director and Hideyuki Kurata as screenwriter, continuing from the previous installments.
