中国春秋戦国時代を舞台に、天下の大将軍になる夢を抱く少年・信と、中華統一を目指す若き王・嬴政らが織りなす壮大な物語を描く原泰久の人気漫画を実写映画化した「キングダム」シリーズの第5作。秦と六国がぶつかり合う原作屈指の人気エピソード「合従軍編」を映画化する。 馬陽の戦いで秦が大将軍・王騎を失ってから3年。王騎の思いを受け継ぎ、成長を続ける信は千人将に昇格していた。そんな中、趙の宰相・李牧の策略で、秦以外のすべての国が手を組み、総数50万からなる「合従軍」が秦へ侵攻を開始する。首都・咸陽の王宮では嬴政を中心に事態の対応に奔走するが、かつてない軍勢を前に、秦は国家滅亡の危機に追い込まれる。信は同じ若き将である蒙恬や王賁とともに、秦の国門である函谷関へ向かい、同地には麃公、蒙武、騰、王翦、桓騎ら秦を代表する将軍たちが集結する。一方の合従軍は、楚の春申君を総大将に、かつて祖国を蹂躙されたことで秦に恨みを抱く趙の猛将・万極をはじめとする各国の強者たちが集っていた。 信役の山崎賢人、嬴政役の吉沢亮、李牧役の小栗旬らシリーズおなじみのキャストが引き続き出演。蒙恬役で志尊淳、王賁役で神尾楓珠、桓騎役で坂口憲二、春申君役で斎藤工ら豪華キャストが新たに参加した。監督もシリーズ全作を手がける佐藤信介が続投し、1作目から脚本に参加している原作者の原が、今作でも脚本を手がけている。

Set during China's Spring and Autumn period, this is the fifth live-action film adaptation of Yasuhisa Hara's popular manga series 'Kingdom,' depicting the grand story of Shin, a boy who dreams of becoming the world's greatest general, and the young king Ying Zheng, who aims to unify China. This film adapts the beloved 'Coalition Army Arc' from the original manga, where Qin clashes with the six other states. Three years after the Battle of Mayang, where Qin lost the great general Wang Qi, Shin, who has inherited Wang Qi's will and continued to grow, has been promoted to commander of a thousand men. Meanwhile, under the strategy of Zhao's prime minister Li Mu, all states except Qin unite to form a 'Coalition Army' of 500,000 troops, launching an invasion of Qin. At the capital city of Xianyang's palace, Ying Zheng and his court scramble to respond, but faced with an unprecedented force, Qin is pushed to the brink of national collapse. Shin, along with fellow young generals Meng Tian and Wang Ben, heads to Hangu Pass, the gateway to Qin, where representative Qin generals such as Biao Gong, Meng Wu, Teng, Wang Jian, and Huan Qi gather. On the other side, the Coalition Army, led by Lord Chunshen of Chu, assembles powerful warriors from various states, including the fierce Zhao general Wan Ji, who harbors a grudge against Qin for trampling his homeland. Familiar series cast members return, including Kento Yamazaki as Shin, Ryō Yoshizawa as Ying Zheng, and Shun Oguri as Li Mu. New additions to the lavish cast include Jun Shison as Meng Tian, Fūju Kamio as Wang Ben, Kenji Sakaguchi as Huan Qi, and Takumi Saitō as Lord Chunshen. Director Shinsuke Sato, who has helmed all previous films in the series, returns, and original manga author Yasuhisa Hara, who has been involved in the script since the first film, also wrote the screenplay for this installment.
