「野火」の塚本晋也が監督・脚本を手がけ、ベトナム戦争に従軍したアレン・ネルソンが自らの戦争体験と帰還後の葛藤をつづったノンフィクション書籍を原作に、“戦争加害者の傷”というテーマに取り組んだドラマ。 ニューヨークの貧しい家庭に生まれたアフリカ系アメリカ人のアレン・ネルソンは、貧困や差別から抜け出すため18歳で海兵隊に入隊する。沖縄のキャンプ・ハンセンを経て、1966年にベトナム戦争の最前線へ送られた彼は、苛烈な戦場でただ人を殺すことを強いられ、命を奪う経験を重ねるうちに心の感覚を失っていく。やがて23歳で帰国した彼を待っていたのは、戦場の記憶に縛られる日々だった。大きな音や暗闇に怯え、家族との関係も崩壊しホームレスとなった彼は、絶望の淵へと追い込まれていく。退役軍人病院でカウンセリングを行うダニエルズ医師はそんな彼に真正面から向き合い、救い出そうとする。 ブロードウェイミュージカル「RENT」のオリジナルキャストとして知られるロドニー・ヒックスが主人公アレン・ネルソンを演じ、「シャイン」「英国王のスピーチ」などの名優ジェフリー・ラッシュが精神科医ダニエルズ役で共演。リリー・フランキーがアレンの活動をサポートする日本人・黒井役で出演し、全編英語での演技に挑んだ。2026年・第83回ベネチア国際映画祭コンペティション部門出品。

Directed and written by Shinya Tsukamoto of "Fires on the Plain," this drama tackles the theme of "the wounds of war perpetrators," based on the nonfiction book by Allen Nelson, who chronicled his experiences serving in the Vietnam War and his struggles after returning home. Born into a poor family in New York, African American Allen Nelson enlists in the Marine Corps at age 18 to escape poverty and discrimination. After training at Camp Hansen in Okinawa, he is sent to the front lines of the Vietnam War in 1966, where he is forced to kill relentlessly on the brutal battlefield, losing his emotional sensitivity as he takes lives. When he returns home at 23, he finds himself bound by memories of the war. Plagued by fear of loud noises and darkness, his family relationships crumble, and he becomes homeless, driven to the depths of despair. Dr. Daniels, a counselor at a veterans hospital, confronts him head-on and tries to save him. Rodney Hicks, known as an original cast member of the Broadway musical "RENT," plays the protagonist Allen Nelson, and the acclaimed actor Geoffrey Rush, of "Shine" and "The King's Speech," co-stars as the psychiatrist Dr. Daniels. Lily Franky appears as Kuroi, a Japanese man who supports Allen's activities, taking on the challenge of performing entirely in English. Screened in the competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in 2026.
