ニューヨーク・メトロポリタン歌劇場（MET）の最新オペラ公演を映像収録し、映画館で上映する「METライブビューイング」2025～26シーズンの第8作。メキシコの画家夫妻フリーダ・カーロとディエゴ・リベラをモデルに、イタリアの名作オペラ「オルフェオとエウリディーチェ」の設定を逆転させ、亡き妻が冥界から1日だけ夫のもとへ戻ってくる姿を描く「フリーダとディエゴ　最後の夢」を収録（2026年5月30日上演舞台を収録）。 1957年、メキシコの死者の日。3年前に妻フリーダを亡くしたディエゴは老いと悲しみにさいなまれ、フリーダとの再会を切望していた。一方、冥界で苦しみから解放されていたフリーダは、死者の番人であるラ・カトリーナから、ディエゴの人生の終わりに同行するべきだと言われ、24時間だけ地上に戻ることに仕方なく同意する。ディエゴとフリーダは感動的な再会を果たすが、フリーダには生者に触れてはならないというルールが課せられていた。

The eighth installment of the 2025-26 season of "MET Live Viewing," which records and screens the latest opera performances at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Based on Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, this production reverses the setting of the classic Italian opera "Orfeo ed Euridice," depicting a deceased wife returning from the underworld to her husband for just one day in "Frida and Diego: The Last Dream" (recording of the performance staged on May 30, 2026). In 1957, on Mexico's Day of the Dead. Diego, who lost his wife Frida three years earlier, is tormented by age and grief, longing to reunite with her. Meanwhile, Frida, freed from suffering in the underworld, is told by La Catrina, the guardian of the dead, that she should accompany Diego at the end of his life, and reluctantly agrees to return to the earthly world for only 24 hours. Diego and Frida have a moving reunion, but Frida is bound by a rule that she must not touch the living.
